The Gray Days of Winter

February 19, 2023

We still make business headshots and family, senior, child, and real estate photographs. February is the quiet time of the year, featuring morning coffee and the remote under my control. Since clients make their requests via my website, I can keep an eye on my phone, make appropriate appointments, process orders, still drink at least three cups of coffee, and let the two dogs and two cats in and out as required. I am thankful for clients who don't prioritize early morning appointments, portrait clients need to be awake for a while before their session, and at this time of the year, the sun is in a better place during midday for real estate photography. Cloudy days are suitable for outdoor photography, and being busy can keep winter blues to a minimum. Now that I no longer have employees or a large, expensive studio, advertising expenses, and many other business obligations, I am learning to relax and go with the flow. When I wake up, the day's tasks load into my head. I calculate the schedule and the time I can loaf around the house. My appointments book close to the scheduled time; I like this immensely because I never know where I'll end up throughout the day. Learning to be patient and not worry about work takes some time. Spending time with my three-year-old granddaughter, picking her up from school, is a treat; she will continue to love me as long as the ice cream cones continue.
