My wife and I went to a Don McLean concert at Oaklawn with a couple of friends, so the parking lot was immense. Don did an excellent job, and we enjoyed it a lot. When it came time to leave, lightning greeted us upon exiting the facility, so we proceeded briskly to the parking lot. Then the first raindrops appeared in the parking lights and began impacting my sensitive scalp. Suddenly we found ourselves in sideways rain, unsure where the car had left. Carla's car doesn't honk the horn when you press the unlock button on the key fob. So, I searched for the vehicle, looking for flashing lights in the blinding rain. The monsoonal nightmare caused my wife's glasses to fog over, so she had no idea where anything was. Finally, I found the car and my wife at the same time. We sat in the car for a moment to collect ourselves and figure a way to reconnect with our friends. We found our way to the main hotel entrance, where our arid friends were waiting. They had gone by the merchandise table, so they got to miss drowning in the parking lot. Brilliant displays of lightning illuminated our way home. Sheets of rain swept across the highway, almost covering the lane lines. Finally, we made it home safely.
