A Little Wintry Weather

February 5, 2023

As long as there is a demand for our business headshots, senior, family child/newborn portraits, and real estate photos, we will continue to open the door and go to the shoots even in the wet and cold. The weather and icy conditions tried to shut us down, so we retreated to the house and worked out of the home office for a couple of days. On Thursday, I shot a place surrounded by a cold and soggy yard with ice falling from the trees as the temperature had exceeded freezing. It had stopped raining minutes before, and as I walked around the house, I avoided the falling ice by not walking under their limbs, now free from the extra weight of the ice. The light during these conditions is okay for pictures since the diffused light wraps around the house, exposing more details than would be seen in the shadows on a bright day with direct sunlight. I prefer to have soft light illuminating the windows for the interior shots since this will reveal more detail in windows which can have a very bright or blown-out look. We managed what I hope to be the last wintry weather that threatens the roads and other businesses. My cats are tired of sitting at the door with an accusing look like I had something to do with the unpleasant weather. My wife works in medicine, so as most people snuggle down on icy mornings, we are out plowing ahead.
